The Hawth Trio Concert on 15 April was great. The volcanic ash prevented the booked bass player getting to the gig, but Arturo Meneses, a Uruguayan friend of percussionist Andres Ticino stood in.

Paul Malsom was delighted to accept an invitation to play the opening set for the two 10cc concerts at The Mick Jagger Centre on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd October 2008. Click here for a YOUTUBE video taken at one of these oncerts.
'Bump and Bite' Album Review - Sam Wise in Acoustic Magazine:- Solo acoustic instrumental albums can be a trial, but not so this one. Malsom is a slick player, and interprets his material well, though like many solo players, it can sometimes feel that he’s rushing. There’s quite a breadth of material on Bump and Bite, with Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ providing one of the highlights of the album.
'Bump and Bite' Album Review - Mark Webster, Austin, Texas...."I wanted to let you know that the CDs arrived yesterday, and we have been enjoying them almost continuously since. The music is as astonishing as we remember from your live set in London. It is a real pleasure to listen to such amazing virtuosity.
The only experinece I have had that comes close to our enjoyment of your London performance happened some thirty-odd years ago when I was a college student in Minneapolis. I wandered into a campus area tavern and heard a then-unknown guitarist named Leo Kottke. I couldn't believe that such richness of sound could come from a single instrument. I feel the same amazement listenting to your music." received 25th May 2006
October 2006 - "What's New?" - a new CD recorded with vocalist Beverley Vaughan. Jazz standards - with a contemporary twist - and songs by writers such as James Taylor, Sting and Joan Armatrading. Also with Danny Sheppard (double bass), Andres Ticino (percussion), Buster Birch (percussion) and featuring Derek Nash on saxophones. Available now through Jazz CDs - click here
..."Can't Help It" - a new CD with Karen Lane (vocals) and Nic France (percussion) - available now through 33 Records. Click here

In fact he danced in, and added plenty of movement to his fine playing

Have you thought of adding any Django tunes to your setlist? It would be very interesting to see what you could do with them. I could imagine you would try to fit a bassline with the melody going at the same time. It would be a refreshing break to hear all the classics played this way. I think I've got Martin Taylor doing a version of Nuages on solo guitar. It's quiet a treat to hear this version. I can burn you a copy off if you want to contact me through my website. See you sometime. |

We got Neil Sherring on drums, Pat Healy doubling on percussion, Gary O'hara and Michael Liddel form the brass section. Phil Walters was an obvious choice for bass. So how about it? an offer like this doesn't crop up too often. The finances will be to your liking, first gig's booked in July , plenty of time for rehearsals. The venue's Winton Libral Club, good audience expected. The group's called 'OFFSHORE STRUCTURES'. |

I have just been to see Les Paul play at The Iridium Club. Les Paul is 90 this year. He tells great stories and has lots of guests to carry him thru the set. | On 8 May 2005, Steven Bunyon ( steve_bunyon@hotmail.com ) | from Dorset guitar and flute circle wrote the following message: | | I was spell-bound, the final set at Seven-oaks left us all enthralled. Even I, the most stern of all reviewers for Classical Guitarist Magazine, could not find fault with the deftness and virtuosity of your playing. However, I did notice a small imperfection in your nail filing which inadvertently affected the tone of the 47th note of 'Sunstep'. I hope I don't appear to be too picky. Also,I couldn't help but notice the Woman in the front on the left, was wearing stockings. |
